The only hospital bag list you need (Singapore)

Pack one bag for you, one small bag for baby, and one for whoever is coming with you. Ask your hospital what they provide for the stay, because it is usually more than people expect, which is why this list is shorter than the internet's.

Pared back on purpose. You don't need everything the internet tells you to pack. You need what actually gets used.

For you

For baby

For your support person

What you can leave at home: the full skincare routine, a going-out outfit "just in case," and anything you're packing purely out of anxiety rather than actual need. If in doubt, leave it. You can always ask someone to bring it later.

When to pack it

Pack this a few weeks before you're due, then stop thinking about it. One less thing to carry.

There is no prize for packing late, and earlier is only ever cheaper than later. If a whole bag feels like too much tonight, pack the documents pouch and leave the rest for another day.

What is different about delivering in Singapore

Less than people expect, and most of it is paperwork.

If something starts and you are not sure whether to go in, do not sit with it. Where to take it: your own gynae or clinic, for anything you would normally bring to an appointment. The hospital where you are booked will have an after-hours number. It is usually on your appointment card or their website, so find it now and save it in your phone. For anything severe or sudden, A&E or 995. It is never a waste of their time.

Questions people ask about this

When should I pack my hospital bag?
Pack it a few weeks before you are due, then stop thinking about it. There is no prize for packing late, and earlier is only ever cheaper than later. If you want a smaller first step, pack the documents pouch tonight and add the rest another day.

Does the hospital provide nappies and pads?
It varies by hospital and by ward, so ask yours rather than trusting a list. One phone call replaces an entire evening of packing things you will not open.

What is different about packing for a delivery in Singapore?
Mostly the paperwork and the ward. Bring the NRIC or passport of both parents, whatever your hospital asked for when you registered, and your insurance details. The ward type you booked changes how much you need to bring with you, and the going-home outfit only needs to survive an air-conditioned corridor and a car.

Do this now

Pack the documents pouch tonight. It is the only part of this list you cannot borrow from someone in the ward.

Next: what to actually have at home before the baby comes, and what the other parent can actually do. And if tightenings have you second-guessing whether it is time, here is how Braxton Hicks usually differ from labour.
