Baby Bonus in Singapore, in plain numbers

A first or second child brings a S$11,000 cash gift. A third or later brings S$13,000. It arrives every 6 months until your child is 6.5, not in one lump. Then there is a separate pot, the Child Development Account, which is where most of the money people leave behind actually sits.

The cash gift

Birth orderCash gift
First childS$11,000
Second childS$11,000
Third and fourth childS$13,000
Fifth and subsequent childS$13,000

It is deposited every 6 months until your child is 6.5 years old. That single sentence is the one most people miss, and it changes how you should plan your first year. The number is real, it is just spread across the better part of seven years.

The CDA, which is the part worth reading twice

The Child Development Account is a separate account for your child. Two different things go into it.

First Step Grant: money you get without doing anything

Birth orderFirst Step Grant
First and second childS$5,000
Third and subsequent childS$10,000

The S$10,000 figure for a third or subsequent child was raised from S$5,000 for children born from 18 February 2025, under the Large Families Scheme.

Co-matching: money you only get if you put money in

The government adds an extra dollar for every dollar you deposit into the CDA, up to a cap set by birth order.

Birth orderGovernment co-matching cap
First childS$4,000
Second childS$7,000
Third and fourth childS$9,000
Fifth and subsequent childS$15,000

This is the one that costs people real money, quietly. Co-matching is not automatic. If you never deposit into the CDA, you never receive it. A first child with an untouched CDA leaves S$4,000 of matching on the table, and nobody sends a reminder. If money is tight, even small regular deposits are matched, and the cap is a ceiling rather than a target you must hit at once.

What to actually do

  1. Do not plan your first year around the cash gift arriving at once. It comes in instalments over 6.5 years. Work out what actually lands in the first twelve months.
  2. Open the CDA and put something in it, even a small amount. Unmatched cap is the only part of this scheme you can genuinely lose by inaction.
  3. Check your own birth order carefully. The steps between first, second, third and fifth are not small, and every figure above moves with it.
  4. Read the current figures yourself before relying on them. These amounts changed for children born from 18 February 2025 and can change again at any Budget.

Where these numbers come from

Every figure on this page is quoted from the government's own Baby Bonus Scheme page on life.gov.sg, read on 4 August 2026. Nothing has been rounded, averaged or estimated. Where we were not certain of something, we left it out rather than fill the gap.

We have not covered eligibility conditions, how to enrol, or what the CDA can be spent on, because those deserve the official source and not a summary. Start at life.gov.sg and go from there.

The money is the easy part to look up. The rest is not.
